About

Ana Maria Oancea is a Romanian composer and interdisciplinary artist based in Bergen, Norway. Her work often combines acoustic writing with electroacoustic works, live electronics, and theatrical or text-based elements. She is interested in how sound and performance can extend into wider cultural, poetic, and experimental contexts.

Her music has been performed by ensembles such as Arditti Quartet, Schallfeld Ensemble, Ensemble Orbis, Concept Store Quartet, and the Edvard Grieg Vocal Ensemble, with premieres in Norway, France, Austria, Greece, Spain, and Lithuania. Her portfolio spans chamber opera, immersive sound installations, ensemble and orchestral works, as well as music for theatre and film. She has participated in major workshops and academies including Académie Voix Nouvelles (Royaumont), Barcelona Modern Festival, Ossiach Summer Academy, and Erasmus+ projects in Corfu and Ossiach.

Alongside her compositional work, Ana Maria is active as a cultural organizer and producer. She works with nyMusikk Bergen and Teatrul din Buzunar in Romania, coordinating concerts, creating promotional materials, and building collaborative networks. She is a board member of NyMusikk Bergen and NyMusikk Komponistgruppe, and a member of the Norwegian Composers’ Society, Proscen, and the Norwegian Film Music Association.

She completed a Post-Master in Composition at the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen, under the supervision of Prof. Stylianos Dimou, following a Master of Arts in Composition at the same institution, where she studied with Prof. Dániel Péter Biró. Earlier, she earned her Bachelor in Music Composition at the National University of Music Bucharest.

Her practice often brings together text, theatricality, and electroacoustic works, while drawing inspiration from wider artistic and cultural fields.
