Isometric State

string quartet

„Isometric State” – a state where movement and stillness coexist, a space that zooms into the mechanism of breath, in a most fragile moment –before sound becomes sound, capturing the “almost” between movement and stillness. This piece was written for and dedicated to ‪Quatuor Bozzini‬ and was premiered on March 21st at the Jane Mallett Theatre as part of the 2026 edition of ‪Soundstreams‬, following a week-long workshop with the quartet as part of the festival's programme Bridges: Emerging Composers Program.

Voices not our own

for violin, saxophone, accordion and percussion

“Voices not our own” draws inspiration from the fascinating survival tactics of the Phengaris arion, whose existence hinges on a remarkable act of deception. This morally ambiguous strategy—a delicate dance between adaptation and intrusion— mirrors nature's relentless drive for persistence, where beauty and betrayal coexist, and survival demands a delicate balance between individuality and belonging.

The piece weaves a narrative of fragility, tension, and transformation, much like the butterfly’s precarious yet necessary masquerade in the underworld of the anthill, exploring the universal need to adapt and conform in order to thrive.

This piece has been written for and dedicated to Concept Store Quartet: Alicja Pilarczyk (violin), Pablo Gonzalez Balaguer (saxophones), Nejc Grm (Accordion) and Jeanne Larrouturou (percussion). The premiere took place on the 7th of February 2025 in Gunnar Sævigs Sal, after a workshop week with the ensemble.

The chamber opera was premiered on the 13th of June at the Cornerteateret in Bergen, Norway.
