During the Voix Nouvelles Academy at Royaumont, singers, composers, conductors, and vocal ensembles worked together in a shared creative laboratory. The program focused on vocality, composition, and improvisation through collaborative exploration guided by artists such as Raquel Camarinha, Juliet Fraser, Rosie Middleton, Neue Vocalsolisten, Ensemble Aedes, Ensemble Orbis, and composers Frédéric Durieux and George Lewis.
Participants engaged deeply with the possibilities and constraints of the vocal ensemble, experimenting with color, dynamics, extended techniques, and collective processes. The academy culminated in two concerts combining new compositions perfected by the composers during the residency.
Throughout the residency, daily workshops, preparation sessions, improvisation labs, and listening seminars fostered artistic exchange and expanded the participants’ creative perspectives.
